7.5 Channel Adjustment Processes Narrative
Active nick points and head cuts through aggraded sediments, channel starting to form new features. Channel avulsions have left new channel at a higher elevation than former channel, likely offsetting some historic incision, and it appeared that channel may have incised rapidly in early stages of Irene, followed by significant aggradation and braiding, now evolving back toward single thread channel. Evidence that channel has relocated multiple times historically, but despite rise in bed elevation post-Irene the current level of historic incision leaves stream entrenched in a vastly reduced floodplain that still provides enough floodplain access to function as C-type stream. Possible that this may even be a D-type (multi-thread) stream, but it appears to be rapidly re-establishing single thread. Extreme sensitivity assigned due to these considerations (typical sensitivity would be Very High for a C4 stream in Poor condition).
