This reach shares the valley with Smokeshire Rd, which reduces the floodprone width for the majority of the reach. This encroachment has caused incision throughout the reach, which is evident from the grade controls throughout the reach. T.S. Irene deposited cobble and gravel throughout this reach creating many mid and side channel bars. Where the stream was further away from the road there was more evidence of planform adjustment including flood chutes and a channel avulsion. The presence of grade controls and encroachment throughout the reach provide evidence that this reach is in stage II of channel evolution.
