Comments:
Segment located on lake gravels, pebbly and fluvial sands along shoreline of glacial Lake Hitchcock: deltaic formation that has been disconnected by railroad embankments from much of former floodplain along the Third Branch. Appeared that channel may have incised rapidly in early stages of Irene, followed by significant aggradation and braiding, now evolving back toward single thread channel. Evidence that stream has migrated multiple times across the valley, moving to a new location (possibly at a higher elevation, as was the case in Irene) and cutting a new channel before moving again. Mouth of Gilead Brook entering Third Branch (east side of RR tracks) avulsed and relocated further upstream in Irene. House off right bank at upstream end of segment (off Spring Hollow Rd) is no longer present, appears to have been undercut in Irene and opted for buyout. Bridge across Gilead Brook to farm fields across from this former house location was outflanked on LB and has not been rebuilt; Spring Hollow Rd is now gated at the entrance off of Rte. 12 (Pleasant St). Significant mass failures beneath White River Valley Ambulance Service and Randall Drive-in as well, close to collapsing valley wall under another house or cabin high on the valley wall. Extreme sensitivity assigned due to these considerations (typical sensitivity would be Very High for a C4 stream in Poor condition).
