Comments:
Repeat cross sections and field notes completed in Sept 2007 to supplement Phase 2 data collected in July 2001 and Sept 2004. Slight valley encroachment at downstream end by railroad. However, valley confinement (Very Broad) remains unchanged. Small withdrawal is for irrigation from left bank mid-reach; does not appear to be in regular use. Historic, large avulsion site has been the focus of an NRCS restoration project (in progress 2007) where flood chute channels through adjacent corn field were filled and a signficant area was regraded. Some corn was taken out of production to increase buffer area. See report for map and more details. Railroad present prior to 1892 based on historic USGS topo map. Stepped footers on railroad bridge abutment suggest bridge was raised at some time in the past. Reach is influenced by backwater effects from Lake Champlain in very wet years.
