Comments:
Continuing from upstream segment B, the Baldwin Creek is transitioning out into the Very Broad valley setting along Rt 116 north of Bristol village. Segment A has a reduced valley confinement and lesser valley gradient than upstream segment B. The marked reduction in valley confinement and valley slope within this segment has been indexed as an “Alluvial Fan”. This area saw substantial deposition during the 1998 flood; gravels/cobbles filled the channel (and were subsequently dredged) and also covered the road and residential properties in this area. The history of channelization, dredging, armoring and berming has resulted in a stream type departure from a reference D-braided to a single-thread channel. This segment has a degree of floodplain connection (IR=1.5). A lateral stream type departure from D-braided to C-Planebed is inferred
