Comments:
Channel flows along extremely steep, right-valley-wall comprised generally of bedrock and shallow-till over bedrock. Natural valley width is generally greater than 10 times the bankfull width (Very Broad confinement). VT Rt 116 follows the channel mid-valley and is occasionally raised above the valley floor constituting a human-caused change in valley width. However, the modified valley width is still, on average, greater than 10 times channel width. Thus, no significant change in valley type (Very Broad) or confinement status (Unconfined). Minimal agricultural development in the valley along this reach: one farmstead with accessory buildings. Channel is post-glacially and historically incised below left-bank terraces which generally decrease in height above the thalweg with distance downstream. Generally, incision ratio declines with distance downstream. There are localized pockets where active aggradation/ widening/planform adjustment has constructed incipient floodplain at a lower elevation (e.g., XS-2). Occasional short lengths of berms and/or armoring are present along the left bank. Adjacent fields are rotated between crop and hay. Historic straightening is inferred based on presence of berms and position of channel pinned against right valley wall. Frequent outcroppings of bedrock along the right bank are contributing to linear planform.
