Description Of Incident:
|
Heavy rains came through area approximately 9 pm on 7/1/17 causing flow at WWTF to rise. Rain over period of incident was 3.47 inches. All four main raw sewage pumps came on to handle flow. Unfortunately some partially treated wastewater discharged from top of RBC tanks and flowed across back field to Walloomsac River. Flow at 9 am on 7/2/17 was still 10.25 MGD (all the pumps will handle; wet well was at 17 feet during high point of incident) with all 4 main raw sewage pumps operating. Operators put RBC Row 4 which was out-of-service back online to fill therefore stopping tank overflows. -- We also experienced several manhole overflows in both Bennington and North Bennington with unestimated untreated wastewater going to waters of the State (tributaries to Walloomsac River). -- Situation was unavoidable due to weather conditions.
