Pump station emergency overflow pipe
The operator briefly restored control power and when this accomplished nothing he turned off the control power once again and the backup motor immediately started. Within a minute or two the overflow had ceased. He remained at the station until it had finished pumping and shut off.
A comparison of flow charts at the WWTF showed nearly identical flows for this night/early morning as in the previous 24 hours. A process change at 5:30 a.m. at the plant on this day makes it impossible to tell when the pump station had ceased to function, but our very best estimate seems to indicate that the overflow could not have started before 5:45 a.m. and the maximum 45 minutes of overflow occurred at a time of very low flows.
We had expected technicians to come to work on the recurring electronic problem every day this week and, after the problem on 2/10/2016, were promised that technicians will arrive around 10 a.m. today. We will closely monitor the station until then.

Because of a recently recurring problem experienced on 2/10/2016 the normal control power had been shut off and a battery-powered level controller was signaling the LP gas-powered backup engine to operate the pump. An operator found the engine was not running and sewage was overflowing to the Castleton River at 6:30 a.m.
