We have treated our effluent with a low dose CL2 and increased sludge wasting from the tanks. Due to an excessive release of a red soap/wax, from a Car wash facility the UV disinfection system was ineffective and could not treat the E-Coli Bacteria. After an investigation we located the problem and the car wash was shut down until they could clean there tanks and rectify the problem. The spray nozzles had been changed and they were discharging the soap at a much higher rate than usual. Our flows were low for the summer, less than half of our usual and the accumulation of the soaps in our sludge and in their grit separator tank all combined to create the problem.

We have experienced a unknown bacteria that has shaded our effluent red. Upon seeing this we immediately contacted Vermont Rural Water. They also were unfamiliar with this. As our last E-Coli was a 9 we were not aware that it may be a violation.
