Lagoon dewatering ahead of excavation for the replacement chlorine contact tank required increased flow through the existing contact tank, and that combined with increasing chlorine demand led to an e. coli test result on August 20th of 300 MPN/100 ml, which is over the public notification threshold of 235. A retest on August 27th yielded a result of 7 MPN/100 ml. Total volume was necessarily calculated from the flow between the two successive tests and not the true duration of the incident.
