The on-call operator checked the pump station and called for assistance on Sunday afternoon (1/11/2015). RCI Electric responded and hard wired a pump. The operators ran the pump manually and pumped down the wet well to the normal operating level, which stopped the overflow. Dundon's Septic responded but was not needed to pump down the wet well. The operators worked shifts Sunday night and Monday (1/12/2015) to operate the pump manually to pump sewage from the pump station to the Vergennes Wastewater Treatment Facility. On Monday, the electrician was working to repair one drive and the operators were installing floats to operate the pumps.

The heater inside the MacDonough Drive Pump Station tripped out. A copper water pipe then froze, burst, and sprayed the Variable Frequency Drives for the pumps with water until the drives failed. Sewage backed up in the pump station wet well and overflowed.
