Call came in at 6 am that sewer was backing up in the force main structure at the bottom of North Main. I dispatched our vactor truck to attempt to unplug the sewer. It was then discovered that the sewer main had failed. At 7:30 I had to shut one of our pump stations on River Street down to keep the raw sewage out of the road. This shutdown caused the pump station to back up to the emergency overflow. This decision allowed us time to set up a bypass pumping system and get our sewer flowing around the blockage by 9:00 am. We are still currently bypass pumping as the main is being repaired.
