Heavy rains this morning have once again cause a combined sewer overflow from CSO #001 on Otter Creek. CSOs serve as a "relief valve" in the sewer collection system when rain water overwhelms the capacity of the sewers. This prevents stormwater and wastewater from backing up onto streets and into buildings. The wastewater contribution to this overflow is estimated at 4,300 gallons.
