Staff immediately increased disinfectant dose. Staff have made efforts to improve the biological process to correct the issue and return the plant to compliance. Additional sampling will be done over the next few days to verify compliance.

This morning upon arrival staff noticed a cloudy effluent and low residual of disinfectant at the Riverside Avenue wastewater plant in Burlington. As staff investigated, it appears a process of cleaning a chemical tank had released more caustic chemical than anticipated leading to a process upset. Staff have sampled multiple times today for E.coli, at time of posting the results were still pending.
