Staff acted quickly to minimize the discharge, and worked through out the day to work on this issue. Over night staff came in multiple times to manual check the situation. This morning staff was able to clear the debris from the RAS system, and return to normal operating condition.

East plant experienced a RAS equipment failure that led to and e.coli violation. This failure was cause by debris blocking the suction inlet of the #2 clarifier. The recent storm on 10/31 increase flows and brought in substantially more debris that could be the cause of this failure.
The initial e.coli results are were approximately 1,300 colonies per 100 mls, showing while inadequately disinfected, the facility was destroying some e.coli. Staff immediately increased disinfection, reduced flow out the plant and started addressing the clarifier issue. In less than an hour another sample was taken. Those results were still above permit, 172 colonies per 100mls, but below recreation limit.
