The city received an alert to a sewer problem Friday the 26th at 4:30pm on a system that is NOT designed for emergency notification. Approximately 7:20am on Monday the 29th the report was handed to staff to check. Due to the lack of known sewer infrastructure in the area, staff evaluate the possibility of it being a water main break while also continuing to check the sewer system downstream. Around 12pm the city found a blockage on an adjacent sewer main. Around 12:40pm that blockage was cleared fully. Upon being cleared the initial sewer leak stopped. It was at this point it was determined that the blockage at the intersection of Austin Dr/Home Avenue had caused sewage to surcharge at the Ledgewood Circle location, presumably due to what appears to be an improperly abandoned private forcemain. Staff limed the area where the sewage left the ground and entered the stormwater collection system. Staff checked downstream areas and thus far it appears that sewage has not reached the lower reaches of this stormwater system and has not yet reached the Lake or potentially has not reached the small tributary to the Lake. Additional work will continue tomorrow 1/30 to try to continue to remediate areas where the spill may have collected in the upper areas of the stormwater system.
