Upon discovery of the release, GlobalFoundries immediately undertook the following responsive actions:
• Isolation of the line affected by the malfunction and rerouting of flow to an alternate line.
• Implementation of temporary containment measures, including damming and diking of storm drains.
• Engagement of Republic Services to deploy vacuum trucks for collection of standing wastewater from paved surfaces, roadways, landscaped areas, and other impacted locations.
• Removal of wastewater from adjacent utility vaults and other affected collection points.
• Initiation of sampling and analytical evaluation of potentially impacted environmental media.

During a pump swap initiated in response to a pump seal alarm, an unanticipated equipment malfunction occurred within the pump house system. The malfunction resulted in a loss of containment within Building 983 and caused untreated industrial wastewater stored in the collection system to discharge beyond the building's containment capacity.
