Corrective Action Taken: The discharge was sampled on August 18 and identified as untreated process industrial wastewater. An inflatable plug to stop the discharge was placed into the stormwater outfall pipe at 1:30 PM on August 18. Mill personnel are continuing to investigate the cause of the discharge, and plan to install a blind flange on the end of the stormwater outfall pipe until the cause and final solution can be determined and addressed.

Description Of Incident: A pipe for stormwater and the fresh water intake screen overflow passes through the mill and discharges to the river at the stormwater outfall. Untreated industrial process wastewater leaked into the stormwater pipe, possibly where the pipe passes through the mill process wastewater pit. There was no sanitary sewage in the discharge.
