Description Of Incident:
|
At ~8:30 am on 4/5/19 the South Burlington DPW received a call indicating that wastewater was flowing into the basement of a residence on Southview Drive. DPW staff responded and determined that the gravity sewer line serving this area had become clogged. The line was unclogged using a vacuum truck and normal flow was restored by 10:15 am. This temporary blockage caused wastewater to back up into the basement of the nearby home. It also caused wastewater to flow out the top of a nearby manhole, which is located ~80 feet from Potash Brook. Based on an estimate of the flow observed coming out of the manhole, and the duration of the discharge, we calculate that approximately 400 G of wastewater overflowed from the manhole onto the ground surface. Evidence suggests that some portion of this wastewater did not infiltrate into the ground and reached Potash Brook.
