During the heavy rain events on 7/16/23 the wastewater collection system backed up at the 3rd collection manhole in series away from the treatment facility's influent headworks. The collection system, although no longer inundated and overflowing via any collection manholes since the flooding event on 7/11-7/13, has still been surcharged inside the collection piping until the excess inflow and infiltration discontinues. A local resident reported the overflow on 7/17 to town website social media but town did not get notified until after the incident. There were no phone call messages or emails from the resident. Facilities management did not become aware of manhole backup/overflow until 930am on 7/20/2023. Town WW facilities management are estimating the duration and amount of overflow based on the facility influent and effluent data as well as graph charts. The overflow at the manhole was consolidated to an approximate 100 foot radius of the manhole and did not discharge to a body of water.
